I am Raluca Chase – a full-time Essex portrait photographer based in Little Clacton, (Essex). I mainly shoot portraits in the UK, but I also love travelling around the world to capture the beauty of a loving family, in new environments.

I was born and raised in Romania, where I spent most of my childhood in a beautiful Transylvanian city. I was never a ‘girly’ girl; I always preferred riding my bike or playing football, basketball or some other sport (anything that helped me avoid wearing a skirt)!

As cliché as this sounds, I have always loved photography! As a kid I used to develop film and print photographs with my father and brothers in our DYS darkroom, which was gloriously located in our bathroom. I still remember the smell of the chemicals; I still see the image of the printer, the photo drier, the tub full of floating photos slowly fading into clarity…

You may well be wondering how a girl raised in Transylvania ended up as a professional photographer in Essex. Well, it’s a really long story, but here is the short version:

When I was in my early twenties, my sweet husband and I moved to the United States, where I began studying International Affairs (yes, I used to love politics). I thank God that in my first year of university I was required to take an art course. Since my drawings, paintings and sculptures always come out looking hopelessly childish, the only logical option was for me to study photography. That class turned out to be the spark that reignited my greatest passion and helped me realise that photography was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I apprenticed with an American photographer while developing my own style and quickly started my own photography business.

Over the past 12 years our family has grown and grown (we now have five adorable kids) and we have moved back and forth between Europe and America. I have had the good fortune to photograph weddings and families in various parts of the world: USA, Romania, France, Poland and the UK. It was on one of my trips to England that my husband and I finally decided that we wanted to make this beautiful country our permanent home.

My life has changed so much since I first picked up a camera again in that photography class, but this amazing, crazy adventure has allowed me to follow my dreams and to enjoy the gifts that God has so graciously given me.

So, if you are interested in a photographer who loves people for who they are, and who loves capturing memories in a creative, fun and non-intrusive way, get in touch with me! I would love to chat with you about your lovely and amazing family.
